This is achieved through a multi step process where a steel sheet is immersed in pure molten zinc at a very high temperature bonding the zinc to the steel. As the metal strip exits the coating bath the zinc is subjected to an in line heat treatment that converts the entire coating to a zinc iron alloy giving the sheet improved surface finish so it can be painted. The galvannealed steel is then cut into specified dimensions. Galvannealed steel is a matte uniform grey color which can be easily painted.

Galvanealed is actually worked into the metal and more effective. For example a40 tells you that the metal contains 0 40 ounces of coating per square foot. In comparison to galvanized steel the coating is harder and more brittle. Our galvanized sheet metal is g60 and we use a40 galvanneal.

G60 has 0 60 ounces of. Galvannealed steel is very conducive to forming welding and allows for excellent paint adhesion. Galvannealed is cold rolled carbon steel coated with zinc iron alloy on both sides. As a result some amount of powdering can appear when the metal is formed.

The zinc iron coating weight is denoted with an a40 or a60 which means 40 or 60 oz sq ft.
