Answered 4th apr 2012. Apply one bead directly along the edge of the tub and the second bead along the edge of the wall. I ve had the gap between the walls tiles and the bath refilled with flexible twice with bath full. If i remove this seal i will have a 1inch gap between the edge of the bath and the tiles water will have no problem getting through this.

It was a local bathroom shop that did the complete bathroom refit and it was. It s such a big gap that the flexible just pulls away from the tiles or the bath leaving gaps which looks horrible. A builder recommended re tiling the entire wall on top of the existing tiles so that the new row of tiles can be matched up to the bath leaving a small gap which can just be filled with a small amount of silicon sealant. The gap is large and sealant just comes away whats the best way to cover the gap.

The wall at the top of the bath is a stud wall so i am going to remove the aqua board and change the battons to larger sizes. It s an old stone farmhouse and the bare stone walls are obviously very uneven if you put a straight edge along the wall there would be gaps up to 8 cm. The gap varies from 4mm to 30mm and i m looking for a material to fill the gap. I ve cut the tiles to roughly follow the unevenness of the stone walls and left a gap for expansion.

Make sure bath is fixed securely pump mastic down sides of bath that touch walls level with top of bath when set tile down to bath leaving a 5mm gap between tile and bath when tiles are set seal 5mm gap with coloured waterproof mastic of your choice.
