There could be a number of reasons why your garage door is off track.

Garage door is off track in the open position.

Pull the rope in order to release the door from the opener. This allows you to operate the door manually. Check to see if the tracks are anchored to your garage s walls. Secure vise grips to the tracks under the door to keep it open while you work.

The issue is going to be due to the cable untangling and lodging on the road and drum. For whatever reason the garage door won t open and or close. To start the process check overhead for a rope that connects the opener to the door. The tracks separating from the garage walls is a common cause of a garage door malfunctioning and getting off track.

Partially open the door and until the damaged track is lined up with one of the rollers. Use pliers to pry open one side of the track so the opening is wide enough to slide the roller back in. Use a pair of vice grips or locking pliers to hold the garage door in place. Reach overhead and pull the rope that releases the door from the opener.

Once you locate where the wheels on the door are jumping. When all the rollers are back inside the track you can close the opening in the track. A simple way to do this is to put a small piece of wood inside the opened track which will support the shape of the track. Open the door manually.

Disconnect the garage door from the opener.
