Here is a brief trouble shooting guide. The logic board on the garage door opener sends messages to the garage door telling it to open and close. It also sends the message to the door to stop if a safety eye beam is broken or on some models if it senses to much force being needed to open or close the garage door. A power surge due to lightening or a power outage in the house can damage the boards.

The logic board shuts off the motor and flashes the learn light 5 times when it doesn t receive speed signals from the rpm sensor. The door only moves 6 to 8 inches and then stops when the logic board isn t receiving speed signals. It contains the radio frequency rf receiver for the remote controls and other control components. Replace the rpm sensor if the door only moves a short distance and the learn light flashes 5 times.

The logic board is the brain center for the garage door opener. The logic board is the brains of the garage door opener. Even when putting the sensors directly together the receiver indicator light is not on. If the light does not come on when the door opens or go off when it closes the problem could be the logic board.

Your opener might not recognize the programmed limits it might not be sending the signal to open and or close your garage door and it could be a reduced range for your garage door opener remotes. Just to list a few of the symptoms logic boards are often damaged during electrical storms and during power surges the logic board is basically the motherboard for your garage door opener. If your logic board has gone bad it can have numerous symptoms. The sending sensor indicator light is on but the receiving indicator light is not.
